Whether you're a seasoned photographer or just starting out, we welcome all skill levels to participate in this showcase of talent.

As is our habit we encourage you come celebrate the stunning work of this years Brownwood Art Association PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR Ms. Aleydah Gonzalez. This is Aleydah’s second photographer of the year win and her amazing photography truly justifies the award.

And for those who simply appreciate the art of photography, we invite the general public to attend the exhibit and immerse themselves in the beauty of Central Texas captured through the lens. Join us in celebrating the art of photography and the beauty that surrounds us in our community.

Calling all photographers—

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just discovering your passion for the camera! Join us for an exciting Photography Shootout where creativity and skill take center stage. This event is open to photographers of all ages, with a special Best in Show award and a Best Student Photograph prize up for grabs. Adults may enter for just $15, while students can participate for free. Don’t miss this chance to showcase your talent, compete for monetary awards, and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts!

How it works:

  • Pre-register on-line $15 for adults, free for students

    • Online registration will be available on October 3rd.

  • Arrive at the art center by 12 noon on Saturday November 8th

  • At 12 noon the theme for the shoot out will be announced along with any other special instructions

  • Photographers are released to take photos based on the announced theme

  • Once photos are taken return to the art center where workstations will be setup for minimal post processing in the software of your choice.

    • Only minimal photo AI will be allowed.

  • All photos must be submitted by 3pm on November 8th.

  • The submitted photographs will be judged to determine award winners:

    • $250 Best in Show Award. $100 Best Student Photo

Plein Air Painting

Come experience Plein Air Painting or “thepractice of painting outdoorsfrom nature, capturing the landscape and subject in real time”. Join the host, Karen Beauchamp and instructor/facilitor June Musick for an afternoon in the Brownwood countryside.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not being held at the Art Center.

Fee: $35.00 (fees and registration can be accomplished online or at the Art Center. IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO REGISTER AND/OR PAY AT THE LOCATION OF THE WORKSHOP.

What you’ll need to bring to the workshop:

  • Watercolors or Gouache, watercolor paper or watercolor journal

  • one wide brush, one round brush or water brush

  • micro rag or paper towels, small 8oz. water container for washing your brushes

  • small spritzer to keep paints and paper moist, a board or easel to work on

  • chair to set in, hat or umbrella, water to hydrate

What is Gouache?

Instructor June Musick is doing a FREE demonstration to explain the Gouache watercolor art form.

Gouache was first used in France in the 18th century.  It is a water-based paint with higher pigment than watercolor.  It dries fast, can be re-wetted, and leaves a matte finish   June will offer her insights and experiences using this type of paint.

Mixed Media Class Pt. 3

The Mixed Media class, with instructor Christine Brisley, will be on Thursdays, April 3, 17, 24, from 1-3 pm.  Doors open at 12:45.  

Students will learn three mixed media techniques:  

  • Week 1:  pastel over watercolor

  • Week 2: Acrylic and watercolor

  • Week 3: Watercolor and ink

Tuition for the series of 3 classes is $100 for Brownwood Art Association members, and $125 for non-members.  Class size will be limited to 10.

  Registration and payment are at the Art Center during regular gallery hours, weekdays 2-6 pm
