Gouache Class

Step by Step Introduction to using Gouache "The Now Medium". Paint like oil, Paint like Watercolor Learn how it works and all the other applications of Gouache.
First used in France in the 18th Century this medium has made it's mark this past few years. Come and learn

Come join the fun. We’re having a Painting Party on August 2nd from 6pm-8pm hosted at the Art Center by acclaimed south Texas artist Mr. Jeremy Serna. Up to 40 artists will be in the event.
Entry fee is $45.

BAA Membership Quarterly Meeting
Brownwood Art Association members are encouraged to attend this quarterly meeting of the membership. We have had elections since the last membership meeting so come “MEET and GREET” the new board members.


Plein Air Painting Experience
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not being held at the Art Center.
Fee: $35.00 (fees and registration can be accomplished online or at the Art Center. IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO REGISTER AND/OR PAY AT THE LOCATION OF THE WORKSHOP.
What you’ll need to bring to the workshop:
Watercolors or Gouache, watercolor paper or watercolor journal
one wide brush, one round brush or water brush
micro rag or paper towels, small 8oz. water container for washing your brushes
small spritzer to keep paints and paper moist, a board or easel to work on
chair to set in, hat or umbrella, water to hydrate

Art Talk/Demo w/Mike Lewis
Join one of this years Artist of the Year, Mike Lewis for an art talk and demo concerning the art of pottery with tips and technical tricks designed to inspire your own art experience.
The talk is scheduled on June 14 from 10am - 11am at the Art Center.

What is Gouache?
Instructor June Musick is doing a FREE demonstration to explain the Gouache watercolor art form.
Gouache was first used in France in the 18th century. It is a water-based paint with higher pigment than watercolor. It dries fast, can be re-wetted, and leaves a matte finish June will offer her insights and experiences using this type of paint.

Students will learn three mixed media techniques:
Week 1: pastel over watercolor
Week 2: Acrylic and watercolor
Week 3: Watercolor and ink
Tuition for the series of 3 classes is $100 for Brownwood Art Association members, and $125 for non-members. Class size will be limited to 10.
Registration and payment are at the Art Center during regular gallery hours, weekdays 2-6 pm

Roger Levesque Reception
Roger Levesque to be Honored at BAA Farewell Reception
Acclaimed Brownwood photographer and art community leader Roger Levesque will be honored at a Farewell reception Thursday, April 3, by the Brownwood Art Association.
Levesque is relocating to Austin in mid-April after 26 years in Brownwood. He and his wife Linda moved to Brownwood from Austin in 1999. Since then, he has served as board member and president of the Brownwood Art Association and was instrumental in establishing the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood.
“Brownwood has felt like home to me from the beginning,” Levesque said. “As much as I hate to leave, it’s the best thing to do. I will miss my art and photography community, and the many friends made through the years.”
A representational display of Levesque’s photographic art will be shown at the Farewell event, and will be for sale as a fundraising effort for the Art Center.
Levesque was the first photographer to be awarded Artist of the Year by the BAA in 2009, and was responsible for bringing photography into the arena at the renowned Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit held each year at The Depot in Brownwood.
Levesque’s photography has been exhibited nationwide in shows, galleries and in private collections. He was featured in “Art of Photography” magazine in 2010, and “Aperture” magazine in 2009. He was inducted into the International Wedding and Event Videographer Association in 2003 for his efforts in promoting the industry.
He served as Chair of the Brownwood Arts Council and was active in establishing the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. He also served on the board of the Lehnis Railroad Museum Council and the Brownwood Reunion Celebration.

Art Stomp
The inaugural Spring Art Stomp event set for Saturday, March 29th in Downtown Brownwood will feature multiple Texas wineries offering tastings of their expertly crafted wines. Currently, 10 wineries are scheduled to participate in the event along several Downtown businesses also offering tastes of their incredible libations. This event – hosted by Visit Brownwood in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Brown County and the Brownwood Art Association – is a sip-and-stroll style event that will combine flavors from Texas wineries with the local art community for a one-of-a-kind experience. Local artists will be offering live demonstrations and art sales throughout the event. Additional vendors, live music and a grape stomping experience will also be highlights.
